Being transgender is not a choice; Being transphobic is.

Lack of understanding and making inaccurate assumptions has so much to answer for.

Yet society does this consistently with little thought or no care of the consequences.

Journalists and celebrities make remarks around the trans community. In any which way they can isolate; they try. Also attempting to get the LGBTQ+ community to turn in on itself.

Clearly it is done to gain followers & sell papers. But the reality it is having such a negative impact on the trans community.

A study was published in The Lancet which highlighted young people in the trans community are more likely to suffer with mental health issues:

significant evidence that the “distress and impairment, considered essential characteristics of mental disorders” among transgender individuals primarily arises in response to the discrimination, stigma, lack of acceptance, and abuse they face on an unfortunately regular basis

Another study highlights the severity of how young people are affected..

More than half of transgender male teens who participated in the survey reported attempting suicide in their lifetime, while 29.9 percent of transgender female teens said they attempted suicide. Among non-binary youth, 41.8 percent of respondents stated that they had attempted suicide at some point study

The media has also focused its attack’s on charities who are supporting vulnerable young people with incorrect information…

Since this article the lottery has put the funding into review due to ‘negative criticism’. Which has caused further negativity towards the trans community.

Despite this poor reporting; information is reflective that supporting trans kids does not have a negative impact on their well being..

On December 2018 a 17 year old girl took her own life. As she felt she could not go anymore. Let’s not let anyone else down…

That’s the gist of it, that’s why I feel like killing myself. Sorry if that’s not a good enough reason for you, it’s good enough for me. As for my will, I want 100% of the things that I legally own to be sold and the money (plus my money in the bank) to be given to trans civil rights movements and support groups, I don’t give a s**t which one. The only way I will rest in peace is if one day transgender people aren’t treated the way I was, they’re treated like humans, with valid feelings and human rights. Gender needs to be taught about in schools, the earlier the better. My death needs to mean something. My death needs to be counted in the number of transgender people who commit suicide this year. I want someone to look at that number and say “that’s f***ed up” and fix it. Fix society. Please.

Goodbye,

(Leelah) Josh Alcorn
